Dark Cards of Candlewood Debuts Playable Demo During Steam Next Fest

Welcome to the Dark Cards of Candlewood

Indie developer Lunoland, alongside publisher Joystick Ventures, has officially released a public demo for Dark Cards of Candlewood as part of Steam Next Fest. The upcoming title blends card-based combat with party-driven RPG mechanics, offering players an early look at its unique systems and story.

The game begins with a shipwreck that leaves you stranded in the mysterious town of Candlewood. Stripped of your best cards and resources, you take on the role of Fer, a sailor determined to prove he is not a pirate. And venture out to rebuild his deck, form a party, and confront the looming threat known as the Endless Night.

Combat revolves around a deceptively simple two-card choice system, where each decision shapes the flow of battle. Beneath this accessible design lies a layer of strategy driven by chain attacks, momentum, and character abilities. Players can recruit companions like Dari, a cunning faerie rogue, Bast, a defensive warrior with healing skills, and Ren, a mage who bends the rules of combat.

The demo includes the opening chapter, over 240 collectible cards and items, and multiple class-based decks. Players will also get to explore the first region filled with escalating challenges. It also introduces roguelike elements such as randomized dungeon runs, branching paths, and persistent progression systems that reward long-term play.

Developed entirely by solo creator Chris “Luno,” the game reflects a focused vision. It perfectly combines the charm of classic card battlers with modern deckbuilding depth. With its demo now live, Dark Cards of Candlewood looks like a thoughtful and engaging experience worth keeping an eye on. The team plans to release the game in late 2026, so make sure to wishlist it right now.
