Arc System Works has officially confirmed that River City Saga: Journey to the West will launch on June 4, 2026. The game will be arriving on Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 5, and Steam.
Inspired by Journey to the West, one of the Four Great Classical Novels of Chinese literature, the game reimagines the legendary tale through the lens of the long-running River City series. Players step into the shoes of Kunio, who takes on the roles of iconic figures such as Sun Wukong, Zhu Bajie, Sha Wujing, and Tang Sanzang, blending classic storytelling with the series’ signature charm.
Unlike previous entries that leaned into historical narratives like Romance of the Three Kingdoms, this installment shifts toward a solo roguelike action format. Each run allows players to grow stronger, unlocking powerful Secret Skills that can be customized across characters. This adds depth and replayability to every session that you play.
Familiar faces from the River City universe return in creative ways, appearing as allies or formidable bosses. These unexpected encounters inject humor and personality into the journey, staying true to the lighthearted spirit fans expect.
