PD_CGT Announces LURRUNA, A Retro Action Platformer Inspired by 80s Classics

Wishlist LURRUNA Right Now

Indie developer PD_CGT has officially revealed LURRUNA: The Island of Towering Automatons, a retro-inspired action platformer that blends classic design philosophy with a fresh, mysterious setting. Set on a strange and hazardous island, the game places players in control of Dafne, a crash-landed pilot forced to survive against unusual creatures and environmental dangers.

Drawing clear inspiration from the “Classicvania” era, LURRUNA embraces a deliberate and methodical style of gameplay. Dafne’s movement is all about precision, featuring jumps with no mid-air control. This means once players commit to a leap, they must follow through until landing. This design choice mirrors the classic 80s titles and adds a layer of strategy to both combat and traversal.

Dafne uses specialized arcing bombs as her primary weapon, charging them up to three levels to vary attack power depending on the situation. Alongside this, she can backflip and roll to escape danger, giving players a tight but skill-focused moveset to master.

According to developer David Peters, the fixed-jump system is intended to reshape how players approach movement and combat, encouraging a more thoughtful pace and a deeper understanding of the game’s physics.

The game will feature six stages and a total of twelve bosses. It promises to offer a challenging experience aimed at retro enthusiasts, while still including multiple difficulty options for accessibility.

LURRUNA: The Island of Towering Automatons will launch this summer on Steam and Itch.io. The developers have confirmed English language support, with more languages to be announced later.
