Enter a Massive Battlefield in ‘83
Blue Dot Games has officially announced that its upcoming tactical first-person shooter ‘83 will launch in Steam Early Access on April 23. Set in an alternate version of 1983 where the Cold War erupts into full-scale conflict, the game positions itself as a spiritual successor to Rising Storm 2: Vietnam, with several original developers returning under the new studio. Alongside the release date reveal, the team also shared a new trailer that expands on the footage first shown during the Galaxies Showcase.
At its core, ‘83 focuses on large-scale 40v40 battles, placing players directly on the frontlines of a fictional global war. Matches revolve around coordinated squad play, where capturing objectives and maintaining strong communication can decide the outcome. Players step into different roles, including infantry, vehicle operators, and support units, each contributing to the larger battlefield strategy.
The game introduces what the developers describe as “accessible realism.” Matches typically last between 30 and 40 minutes, and while respawns are available, even a short absence from combat can shift momentum. Team Commanders play a key role by directing movements and organizing attacks, adding another layer of tactical depth.
Authenticity remains a major focus, with Cold War-era weapons and equipment recreated in detail. Weapons behave realistically, requiring careful handling, while factors like overheating and stability affect performance in combat.
With its emphasis on teamwork, scale, and grounded mechanics, ‘83 aims to deliver a tense and immersive war experience.
Overall, the Early Access launch will offer players a strong first look at its ambitious vision.
