ShantyTown Is Taking Part in This Month’s Steam Next Fest

Build the Best Diorama in ShantyTown

Publisher Kinephantom and solo developer Erik Rempen of Silk Softworks have confirmed that ShantyTown will return for February’s Steam Next Fest, giving players another opportunity to experience its tranquil urban-diorama building ahead of its full release this spring.

A brand-new trailer accompanies the announcement, showcasing the game’s soothing atmosphere and the layered charm of its handcrafted neighbourhoods. The footage highlights the creative freedom at the heart of the experience, where players design intimate, detailed townscapes at their own pace.

To mark the season, ShantyTown will introduce festive decorations inspired by the Chinese New Year, including Year of the Horse-themed items and other limited-time upgrades. These subtle seasonal additions bring extra warmth and personality to the game’s cosy environments, encouraging players to personalise their miniature worlds with celebratory touches.

Over the past year, the project has evolved dramatically. Early builds featured darker tones and simpler environments that leaned into a colder, minimalist mood. Since then, the team has brightened the lighting, expanded object variety, and added richer environmental detail, transforming familiar locations into vibrant, inviting spaces.

Player feedback has played a central role in this evolution. Closed playtests began last February, followed by a public demo launch in June. Developers have continued refining the demo through multiple updates, and it remains available during Next Fest with fresh content and seasonal enhancements.

As previously announced, ShantyTown launches on April 16, 2026. Players can wishlist the game on Steam now and explore its updated demo during Steam Next Fest this February.
