Step Into a Medieval Realm in Master of Piece
Independent studio I M GAME has announced that Master of Piece, a chess-inspired roguelike deckbuilder and GDWC award winner, will enter Early Access on Steam for PC on February 4. The game will be available for $14.99, with a 10% launch discount available during its first week. With more than 30,000 wishlists and over 22,000 demo downloads already on Steam, the title has built strong momentum ahead of its debut. Ahead of release, the Early Access trailer is already live, so make sure to check it out right below.
Master of Piece is set in a dark, gothic medieval world slowly being consumed by a mysterious black fog. Players step into the role of a commander leading a band of mercenaries through this collapsing land, shaping their journey one decision at a time. Rather than traditional cards, the game replaces deckbuilding mechanics with chess-like mercenary pieces placed on a tactical grid. Each unit carries distinct traits that trigger during combat, encouraging careful positioning, timing, and synergy.
Strategy unfolds through the combination and evolution of mercenary abilities across each run, where every encounter feels deliberate and calculated. As players push deeper, they uncover fragments of the world’s lost history, unlock new commanders, and develop long-term progression systems that persist between runs. Blending board game-inspired tactics with deep customization and replay-focused design, Master of Piece promises to offer a thoughtful roguelike experience built around precision, planning, and adaptation.
