SpaceEngine Just Received Its Version 0.991 Update

Explore the Solar Systems in SpaceEngine

SpaceEngine has released Version 0.991, known as the Universe Generation Update, marking one of the most significant advances the simulation has seen in years. The update is now available to all users, bringing a broad set of refinements aimed at creating a more natural and immersive cosmos.

According to Alexander Long, CEO of Cosmographic Software, the new system has been a long-term goal for the studio. He explains that the team has developed the overhaul over several years and considered it long before Cosmographic even existed. Long notes that the team is pleased to finally deliver the kind of improvements the community has waited for, and he confirms that work on the next version is already in progress. The team plans to include features that did not make it into this update in Version 0.992.

Version 0.991 introduces a wide range of enhancements. The update improves underwater rendering, creating clearer and more realistic visuals. It also refines planet generation, producing a more diverse selection of worlds with a stronger sense of natural formation. The team upgrades globular clusters to create a richer and more accurate appearance. One of the most significant changes is the full refresh of procedurally generated objects, giving users a universe that feels entirely new from the moment they begin their journey.

SpaceEngine developer Dr. Megan Tannock highlights the importance of these changes. She explains that the update represents a meaningful step toward higher accuracy in the simulation, especially in how planets form and behave. The results, she says, create a universe that feels more coherent and grounded in scientific principles.

Further details about the update’s features are available on the official SpaceEngine website under the News section.
