Unravel the Truth in PENANCE
Furistic Studio and Kitsundie Tales have announced that PENANCE will enter its Closed Beta phase from 21 to 23 November on Steam. This psychological survival horror draws on the atmosphere and tension seen in titles like Resident Evil, Alan Wake, and Silent Hill. The project focuses on emotional storytelling and slow-burning terror shaped by the inner turmoil of its protagonist.
The story follows Calen, a man burdened by guilt who becomes trapped in a place that feels familiar yet distorted. This strange realm is covered in a living fog that shifts and reacts as players move through it. The mist hides enemies, conceals pathways, and alters the sense of safety from moment to moment. Its unpredictable nature is at the heart of the experience, turning simple exploration into a constant source of unease.
Penance offers a single-player journey where your moral decisions actively shape how Calen’s story develops. Every part of the world reflects his fragile mindset, from environmental sounds to puzzle design. As time passes in the game, night settles in and the fog thickens, drawing Calen deeper into the truth he has been avoiding.
Combat plays a central role, offering opportunities for a stealthy approach or more confrontational tactics. Players can rely on the environment to stay hidden or push forward with force when needed. The sound design heightens the tension with carefully crafted audio cues that echo through the world and contribute to the psychological weight of each encounter.
The Closed Beta version of PENANCE arrives on November 21. It will provide an early look at its atmosphere ahead of the full release planned for February 2026.
