The Order of the Snake Scale, a Lovecraftian survival horror with a surreal twist, is making its way to Xbox today. Developed by the independent Polish studio FM Simple Games and published by Ultimate Games S.A., the title has already drawn attention from PC players. It will now expand to a wider audience with its upcoming console debut. Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S owners can step into its nightmarish world right now. The PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, and Nintendo Switch versions will arrive on September 25.
The Order of the Snake Scale takes place in an alternate universe shaped by unsettling forces. It blends exploration, puzzle-solving, and survival mechanics with combat and resource gathering. The game draws heavily on the works of H.P. Lovecraft, weaving a story steeped in mystery and dread. Players step into the shoes of a detective, unraveling the strange death of a woman in the eerie town of Happy Rock. What begins as a simple investigation soon spirals into a journey through a dystopian reality. The primal fears and the weight of a new world order haunt the detective throughout the game.
The experience combines modern survival elements with the design sensibilities of classic horror games. Puzzles, platforming sections, and environmental interactions are paired with controls that deliberately echo older survival horror titles. This gives players both a sense of nostalgia and unease. The team at FM Simple Games has also crafted distinctive 3D models, paired with retro-inspired visuals and a haunting soundtrack that reinforces the game’s unsettling atmosphere.
