Hermit and Pig Will Venture Onto Steam in January 2026

Say Hello to Hermit and Pig

Indie developer Heavy Lunch Studio has announced that their upcoming turn-based adventure RPG, Hermit and Pig, will release on January 22, 2026. The news came with a fresh trailer debuting at the latest Six One Indie Showcase, giving players a first look at the mushroom-filled world of a reclusive hermit and his truffle-hunting pig. Fans of quirky adventures and retro pixel art will find themselves drawn into the charming yet unusual duo’s woodland journey.

Hermit and Pig offers a unique twist on the classic adventure RPG formula. While the game evokes the humor and emotional tone reminiscent of Earthbound, it introduces inventive mechanics that distinguish it from its inspirations. Combat revolves around a key-combo system inspired by fighting games like Street Fighter and the playful mechanics of Paper Mario, emphasizing skill development over repetitive grinding. Social interactions are equally engaging, as players navigate Hermit’s social anxiety through humorous, cringe-inducing NPC conversation battles that deliver real damage in unexpected ways.

Since its initial reveal during the Future of Play Direct in 2023, Hermit and Pig have continued to build anticipation through appearances at events including Future Games Show, Day of the Devs, The Mix, Wholesome Games, EGX, Dreamhack, and Magfest. The story begins when a girl from a nearby town seeks the hermit and his pig’s help after a local factory mysteriously replaces its workers with suspicious new personnel. The duo sets out to find a legendary mushroom that could save the town from hunger, but others may also be searching for it.

Hermit and Pig will be available on Steam for PC and Mac on January 22, 2026, with a public demo already accessible for players eager to explore the game’s whimsical world ahead of launch.
