Indie developer and publisher Thunder Bros srl has revealed Thunder Spikes Volleyball, a retro-inspired sports title set to launch in Early Access on PC via Steam around October, with a full release planned for early 2026. Designed by passionate volleyball fans, the game promises to deliver an authentic arcade-style experience that balances accessibility with depth.
More than three years in development, Thunder Spikes Volleyball features hand-drawn, frame-by-frame animations and pixel-perfect controls. Players can perform the full range of volleyball techniques from spikes and serves to blocks and diving saves using a streamlined control scheme built around one button and directional arrows. The simple inputs make the game easy to pick up. And the emphasis on timing and decision-making allows advanced strategies.
The game has several modes to add variety to the experience. In Arcade Mode, players unlock up to 36 national teams from the FIVB World Rankings by winning consecutive matches, echoing the structure of championship tournaments. Single Match Mode allows quick games against friends or the AI. It also supports local play and Steam Remote Play Together. There is an in-depth Training Mode that helps players master advanced moves. This includes pipe attacks, running saves, and defensive strategies.
Looking ahead, a Career Mode is planned for the full release, giving players the chance to manage and grow their own team. They will get to upgrade, trade, and recruit talented players in this mode.
Suitable for newcomers and veterans alike, the game includes an interactive tutorial with step-by-step lessons and video guides.
