Nintendo Switch System Software Updated to Version 20.0.1

Switch Just Fixed an Error

Nintendo has just released a surprise patch for the Switch, quietly bumping the firmware up to Version 20.0.1. While the recent 20.0.0 update introduced big features like Virtual Game Cards, GameShare, and Switch 2 transfers, this new patch takes a more targeted approach, fixing a pesky issue affecting several users.

The update addresses Error Code: 2206-1015, which some players began experiencing after installing Version 20.0.0 and then restarting their console. Nintendo had acknowledged the issue and begun investigating shortly after it surfaced. Version 20.0.1 is now live and should prevent the error from occurring.

Here are the full patch notes (Thanks to Nintendo’s support page):

– Fixed an issue where Error Code: 2206-1015 sometimes occurred when restarting the system after updating to system version 20.0.0.

– If you’re encountering the error, update your Nintendo Switch console in Maintenance Mode.

To do this, power off the system completely. If it’s unresponsive, hold the POWER button for twelve seconds to force a shutdown. Then, while holding both the volume up and down buttons, press the POWER button again. Keep holding the volume buttons until the Maintenance Mode menu appears. From there, select “Update System” and follow the instructions.

If a Parental Control PIN is set, you’ll be asked to enter it. Nintendo offers a reset process if it’s forgotten. And if the error persists or another code appears, contacting Nintendo support is your next step.
