The Final Farewell is a cozy narrative adventure where you play as a lonely ghost. The story is about finding peace in death and learning to let go while cherishing the memories they left. It takes place in Whispering Woods where a misty Veil has fallen. There are rumors that the mist steals the memories of the lost souls, and precious trinkets await to be found.
You wake up as a ghost without any recollection of your past. Wander the beautiful, yet ominous, Whispering Woods, befriend mortals, and piece together misty memories. Seek them out, collect clues, and locate forgotten trinkets. Let the echoes of the past rest in peace, and along the way, you may even discover the truth of your demise.
Catherine McFall, the Creative acknowledged that the game deals with complicated themes like grief and memory loss, and spoke on the importance of not straying from hard-hitting emotional narratives:
“The idea for the game came from the concept of ghosts, and what – or who – haunts us. Grief is a complex topic that everyone can relate to, and it doesn’t always relate to death – sometimes we grieve when a relationship ends or for a path unchosen in life. We wanted to provide a cathartic experience for the player to process their own feelings on the topic. What if you could take some control of what you’ve lost or forgotten?”
