Awards ceremony on February 15. His induction into the Hall of Fame places him in esteemed company alongside gaming visionaries such as Shigeru Miyamoto, Hironobu Sakaguchi, and Hideo Kojima.

In a statement expressing his gratitude, Koji Kondo conveyed his deep appreciation for being selected by D.I.C.E. for this prestigious award. Acknowledging the honor bestowed upon him, he humbly said, “I am deeply thankful for being selected by D.I.C.E. for this important award. The accolade is a testament to the enduring impact of Kondo’s music, described by Meggan Scavio, President of the AIAS, as “timeless and impactful.”

Having joined Nintendo in 1984 as the first employee dedicated exclusively to musical composition, Koji Kondo has played a pivotal role in shaping the sonic identity of Nintendo’s iconic franchises. Although not classically trained in music, his innate passion for instruments and creative genius have defined the soundscapes of beloved games.

From the arcade version of Punch-Out!! to the present day, Kondo’s influence extends beyond gaming culture. His compositions have become cultural touchstones, exemplified by the Super Mario Bros. main theme’s historic inclusion in the NPR registry in the Library of Congress. Kondo’s enduring commitment to enhancing the gaming experience ensures that his melodies will continue to resonate for years to come.

As Kondo receives this prestigious accolade, it marks a celebration of his remarkable career and the transformative power of video game music.
