Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 Introduces Open Combat Missions

Get Ready for “Endless Possibilities” in the Expansive World of Modern Warfare 3

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 is gearing up for its highly anticipated release, and fans can expect an exciting addition to the game in the form of Open Combat missions. These missions are set to provide a refreshing twist to the franchise’s traditional gameplay. In a recent blog post, Call of Duty detailed what players can anticipate from these missions, offering more choice and freedom in how they approach their objectives.

While most of the missions in Modern Warfare 3 will follow the series’ typical linear style, Open Combat missions promise to expand the playable area significantly. With these missions, players will experience a fixed objective but gain “endless possibilities” in how they accomplish their goals.

In Open Combat missions, players will initially receive a loadout tailored to the mission’s narrative, including tools like the Spotter Scope for enhanced environmental scanning, enemy tagging, equipment location, and point-of-interest discovery. This will help players on their quest to secure better gear, with loot scattered throughout the mission area, including weapons, killstreaks, and armor plates. The variety of gear available allows players to adapt their playstyle, opting for a loud and aggressive approach with armor plates or a stealthy one with suppressed weapons.

These missions offer a break from the traditional linear path, allowing players to navigate using ziplines and ascenders, providing opportunities for better vantage points and alternative routes. Players will also have access to a Tac-Map to gain an overview of the objective and its location, while the minimap helps pinpoint items and nearby enemies.

The minimap is crucial in gauging enemy alert levels. If you’ve been spotted, borders on the minimap will turn yellow, indicating enemy awareness in your vicinity without pinpointing your exact location. A red border indicates that you have been spotted, and the enemy knows your precise whereabouts, potentially leading to them calling for reinforcements.

When faced with overwhelming odds, players have the option to retreat into the environment, using an ascender and parachute for a quick escape. If the enemy loses sight of you, they will cease their direct pursuit and shift to a nearby search mode to locate you.

Upon completing an Open Combat mission, players can replay it and customize their starting loadout based on the weapons and items found in previous playthroughs.

Modern Warfare 3 is scheduled for release on November 10, with an early access period starting on November 2 for digital preorders. Players can check the preload and start times for this early access period and the full game release to get a head start on the action.
