Assassin’s Creed Mirage Concerns Addressed by Ubisoft

Assassin’s Creed Mirage Update Gives Players Control Over Controversial Visual Effect

In response to player feedback, Ubisoft is making significant adjustments to Assassin’s Creed Mirage, a game launched on October 5 as a return to the series’ roots, featuring slower-paced, stealth-based gameplay. The subject of concern is the contentious chromatic aberration effect, which attempted to simulate lens distortion and create a more cinematic gaming experience. However, many players found this effect frustrating, prompting Ubisoft to take action.

An update is scheduled for the end of October, and it will set chromatic aberration to the “off” position by default. Players will now have the power to enable or disable this feature at their discretion. This move by Ubisoft comes after numerous gamers voiced their displeasure, with some deeming it the most unfavorable use of chromatic aberration they had ever encountered, while others reported feeling unwell due to the effect, forcing them to abandon the game.

Ubisoft, in response to the player community’s complaints, communicated its commitment to addressing the issue. Waldo, a member of the Ubisoft community team, announced on the official Assassin’s Creed Mirage Discord channel, “We are working to address your feedback with chromatic aberration in-game. With our upcoming update coming around the end of the month, chromatic aberration will be deactivated by default on all platforms, and you will have the option to activate or deactivate this feature in a dedicated menu.”

The situation is reminiscent of the launch of Final Fantasy 16, which introduced a motion blur effect that also left many players feeling uncomfortable and nauseous. Square Enix initially did not provide an option to disable this feature, but due to community outcry, they eventually added a toggle in a later update.

Ubisoft’s decision to allow players to disable chromatic aberration is a testament to their commitment to enhancing the gaming experience and listening to their community, ensuring that players can fully enjoy their latest installment in the Assassin’s Creed series.
