Super Mario Bros. Wonder Prototype Phase: A Deadline-Free Journey

No Rush to Greatness for Super Mario Bros. Wonder

The recent previews of Super Mario Bros. Wonder are full of positive feedback. The game is considered one of the most refreshing takes on the 2D series so far. Part of the reason for this is that there was no deadline in the early phases of its design. The game will launch on 20 October 2023.

Takashi Tezuka, the game’s producer while talking to Wired, mentioned that there was no due date during the prototype stage. This is what he said in the conversation, “I wanted to prevent people from saying, ‘We won’t make that deadline, so that’s why we didn’t do it—we can’t do it,’”

Tezuka explained that “With traditional Mario gameplay, you have to figure out how to get from one point to the next point,”. He added, “This time, more than we’ve done in the past, we have many different choices to choose from.”

Shiro Mouri, the director of the game also added “The number of ideas we got was probably over a thousand, 2,000 ideas.”

The Wonder effects in this upcoming game can completely transform courses in all sorts of unique and unexpected ways. This Switch release also has a lot of other immediately noticeable differences from the average 2D Mario game. It will include new features like elephant power-ups and talking flowers.
