Tricksy Elves
The Lord of the Rings: Gollum will be launching next month. Daedalic Entertainment has released details of the Precious Edition. It includes digital concept art, a lore compendium, soundtrack, as well as “Sindarin VO Expansion”, but what exactly is that?
Sindarin is the language of the Elves in Middle Earth. The Sindarin VO Expansion actually changes the spoken language of the Elves. Where most creatures are voiced in a localized language, this DLC applies the in-world language.
Some prospective players have raised concerns about this voice pack being reserved for owners of this DLC. The developers have noted that there will be sections of the base game where Elves speak Sindarin regardless of if you have the DLC or not.
In a statement to Push Square, they said “Daedalic went the extra mile here and hired professional voice actors, who were trained in Sindarin by our lore experts. It is a DLC for the real Tolkien devotees who want to immerse themselves even more into the world of Middle-Earth.” They also say, “While traversing through Mirkwood and other parts of middleearth Gollum will be able to listen to various dialogues between Elves. These dialogues add to the atmosphere and worldbuilding.”
For the context of cost, The Lord of the Rings: Gollum standard edition is $49.99. The Precious Edition is $59.99, just $10 more. Most games also have the option of selling DLC separately. However, as of now, neither prices nor purchase options are shown for this VO DLC.
The Lord of the Rings: Gollum will be coming out on May 25th for PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, and Nintendo Switch.
