Sonic Origins Plus Expands the Collection With Game Gear Titles

Plus Amy

Last year, Sega released a collection of classic Sonic games for modern platforms. It includes Sonic the Hedgehog 1, 2, 3 & Knuckles, and Sonic CD. While that is a lot of the Blue Blur, there is even more coming with Sonic Origins Plus, which comes out in June.

If you thought Sonic Origins was a lot, the expansion brings the total collection to 16 games. The 12 additional titles are all the Sonic games from Game Gear released between 1991 and 1996. They include Sonic the Hedgehog 1 & 2 (Game Gear), Chaos, Triple Trouble, Blast, Spinball, Labrynth, Sonic Drift 1 & 2, Dr. Robotnik’s Mean Bean Machine, Tails Adventure, and Tails’ Skypatrol.

Sonic Origins Plus

There are also some changes made to the base collection. Sonic Origins Plus makes Knuckles playable in Sonic CD and Amy is playable for Sonic 1, 2, 3, and CD. It also includes content that was part of the Digital Deluxe Edition, which is comprised of a more challenging difficulty, museum content, and a classic music pack.

If you already own Sonic Origins, you can purchase the Plus Expansion Pack, available when the newer collection launches in June. There is also a physical Premium Edition, which a reversible Sega Genesis cover and a 20-page artbook.

This news comes hot on the heels of Sonic Frontiers’ Sights, Sounds, and Speed update. This is the first of at least three waves of content for the game during 2023.

Sonic Origins Plus will be coming out on June 23rd for PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, and Nintendo Switch.
