Get Modern FPS Controls for Golden Eye 007 on Nintendo Switch

Man With the Golden Fun

When it comes to console FPS gaming, there is always one name that pops up. Golden Eye 007 is the gateway game for many players from the N64 era. After years of rumors, the game is now on Xbox Game Pass and Nintendo Switch Online Expansion Pack.

The thing about the original release is the platform, the N64. It’s a classic, but the controller looks like a cartoon grappling hook. The triple-prong handle controller is an eyesore. Moreover, porting the games that used it is pretty rough. Golden Eye 007 definitely suffers from this.

These days (the past 20 years), gamers are used to a certain controller scheme. Left stick moves, right stick aims, triggers shoot. The classic controls are mapped to the Nintendo Switch Joy Cons, in a pretty weird way. However, thanks to some heroes on the internet, there is a way to reconfigure the controls in a more comfortable way.

In a step-by-step list of instructions, you can create a specific controller profile just for Golden Eye 007. It involves swapping the left and right stick controls and moving ZL (fire) to ZR. There are also videos that visually show the steps, if that helps.

If you are deciding whether to play this game on Xbox or Switch, there are a couple of things to consider. Nintendo Switch has online multiplayer, but you will have to contend with the controls. The Xbox version does not have online multiplayer, but has standard modern controls.

Golden Eye 007 is available now for Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, and Nintendo Switch. You can play it with Xbox Game Pass or Nintendo Switch Online Expansion Pack.
