Call of Duty: Modern Warfare Devs Promise “A New Generation” of CoD This Year
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare devs have just teased a new project arriving sometime this year. Although the gaming community has just been playing Vanguard for several months, Infinity Ward is wasting no time on teasing their own game.
“A new generation of Call of Duty is coming soon,” Infinity Ward wrote on social media. “Stay frosty.”
Activision usually rotates development across three developers, namely Sledgehammer, Treyarch, and Infinity Ward, with other studios lending support. For 2022, a new year means a new Call of Duty game. It looks like they chose Infinity Ward to be at the helm of development for this year.
Since the announcement, Call of Duty fans are now in a collective mission to uncover details about this upcoming title. After all, the devs have kept its features and storylines under wraps.
Based on Activision Blizzard’s annual release cycle, it would appear that the game will launch this year. Fortunately for PlayStation users, it will reportedly still be available for PS consoles.
Microsoft Gaming CEO Phil Spencer has previously confirmed to the gaming public that the next three Call of Duty games will still be available on PlayStation devices. However, the future after that remains unclear at the moment.
“The team is working on the most ambitious plan in franchise history with industry-leading innovation and a broadly appealing franchise setting,” Activision Blizzard said. “Studio expansion has continued to add development resources worldwide as plans continue for ongoing live operations and new unannounced titles in the Call of Duty universe.”
Infinity Ward’s highly successful Call of Duty: Modern Warfare launched in 2019 to very positive reviews. The installment reunited the franchise’s fans with past characters and introduced several new ones.
Rumor has it that the next game will be focused on Colombian drug cartels. Should these reports hold any water, this will be a huge departure from the storyline featured in Modern Warfare 2. However, the 2019 installment was also a deviation from the original game. With that said, fans believe that the cartel rumors can possibly be true.
