Book of Travels Devs Assure Fans Development Will Continue Despite Staff Layoffs
Book of Travels is a tiny multiplayer online game with a focus on companionship and exploration. It may have some traditional RPG elements and some battles that players can participate in. However, there is no overarching goal or even a real beginning or an end.
Developer Might and Delight first revealed the title to the gaming community in 2019. It officially rolled out into Early Access just this October. Unfortunately, it was not able to maintain its upward direction from there.
“In light of the launch not going quite well as we had hoped, we have had to make some, rather, big and difficult cutbacks to our beloved team,” the devs wrote in their statement. “In order to stay alive, we have been forced to cut down our team from around 35 people to 10 people.”
The studio has been around for 11 years. “Saying goodbye to so many skilled, trusted, and loved Might and Delighters” was the “most difficult” decision they have made.
“Might and Delight has always been a company that has thrived on the edge and in the margins,” they added. “We have always sacrificed much in order to bring our visions to life—sometimes going against the smartest strategy in favor of a patch closer to our hearts.”
The Book of Travels devs want to be as transparent and concise with their community as they possibly could. With that said, they want to share the current state of the game.
“We have suffered a setback,” they continued. “As a result, the production pace of coming content will be affected.”
Although development for the game will no longer go as the devs have originally planned, Might and Delight promises its followers they they will “continue to bring” the game and “the company forward together.”
“We want you to know that the team that remains is determined and hell-bent on two things: surviving and bringing the best possible content to the game,” the devs added. “We will do whatever it takes to keep Book of Travels going.”
