Change Does Not Spell Beginning Of End for Both Playstations
You can no longer use your credit card, debit card, or any other payment method such as Paypal to purchase games on your Playstation 3 or Playstation Vita starting October 27th. Although Sony has had a recent change to the Playstation Portable preventing users from purchasing any games, this payment method update will still allow you to purchase games and DLC as long as you load in funds using an alternative method.
Starting October 27th, a recent Playstation announcement has stated that the conventional payment methods listed above will no longer allow you to buy “digital content or add funds to your wallet” on the Playstation store when using a PlayStation 3 or Playstation Vita. In order to do so, you must add in the funds from an alternative source. Luckily, it isn’t too hard – you can use any of the conventional payment methods, including Paypal, gift cards, or credit cards, to add in funds from the store website, mobile app, Playstation 4, or Playstation 5. With the added funds, you can then purchase any digital content, games, or DLC on your Playstation 3 or Playstation Vita.
Does this bode bad news for the longevity of the Playstation 3 and Playstation Vita? After all, the Playstation Portable store closure was certainly an unexpected surprise earlier this year in July. However, this is most likely not the case – Sony probably wants to comply with security regulations regarding such payment methods and does not want to update their storefronts. Although unfortunate, the update only amounts to a minor inconvenience every time anyone wants to purchase a game.
