CD Projekt Red Can’t Promise End of Year Next Gen Cyberpunk Release

Can CD Projekt Red Turn the Game Around?

In a disappointing but not unexpected announcement, CD Projekt Red has announced that they can’t guarantee that the next-gen console version for Cyberpunk 2077 will release by the end of this year.  However, in the Group H1 2021 Earnings live steam, the company affirmed its commitment to fixing the game as well as release the promised free DLC after the game is in a non-buggy state.

Cyberpunk 2077

Although the Cyberpunk 2077 next-gen version is planned for the end of this year, the CD Projekt Red earnings announcement warned that “we can’t say with full certainty that the production schedule will not change of course.”  The explanation for the possible delay is simple: the company wants to keep “in mind the lessons [they] learned during the past year.”  The lessons learned, of course, refer to the rushed and disastrous launch of Cyberpunk 2077 last year.

As for The Witcher 3 next-gen versions, there may be a greater chance of the game meeting the end of year deadline.  Instead of CD Projekt Red, Saber Interactive is handling the port over to next-gen consoles.  As Saber Interactive already has a great track record with the Switch port of The Witcher 3 and the Crysis Remastered Trilogy, it is hoped that the graphically upgraded version of The Witcher 3 will arrive on schedule.

As for players who are worried about CD Projekt Red perhaps abandoning Cyberpunk 2077 due to its failed launch, the announcement contains a reassuring statement: “in terms of support work on cyberpunk will continue for as long as it’s necessary.”  The statement arrives soon after the recent 1.3 patch, which still did not fix many of the bugs in game, including an NPC t-posing on the official developer live stream.
