Time to Rewrite the Future
We’ve been looking forward to the release of the time-traveling, chronology-bending RPG Cris Tales for what feels like forever, and now it’s finally here. The game is out, it looks absolutely gorgeous, and the devs are celebrating with a launch trailer that will take your breath away.
The Cris Tales opening movie was already gorgeous, but this new trailer takes that and runs with it. Not only are we treated to some of the most stunning animation the game has to offer–and believe us, that’s a high bar to reach–but the launch trailer also delivers a truly epic challenge to players.
In the trailer, protagonist Crisbell is faced by the Empress of Time, the game’s stylish and enigmatic villain, a powerful sorceress who wishes to destroy the world of Crystallis. To save the world, it won’t be enough to simply act–Crisbell must also make the correct choices at the right time to steer the timeline toward better outcomes.
There are many ways for things to turn out in each Kingdom the Empress of Time attacks, and it’s up to the player to make sure things turn out well for everyone. The video showcases some of the many ways the game mechanics interface with time, from the screen display to the way Crisbell’s choices impact other characters.
The launch trailer also shows off several of Crisbell’s companions, ranging from Matias the frog to JKR-721 the android, both in battle and interacting with each other. All the while, the video asks players a simple question: if you knew how it would all turn out, would you try to change it for the better?
We certainly hope you would, since that’s kinda the premise of the game. Of course, only time will tell if you succeed in rewriting this story to be a happier one.
Cris Tales is now available on PC, Nintendo Switch, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, and Google Stadia.
