Make Way For the King
If you’ve been paying attention to Crystal Dynamics and their plan for Marvel’s Avengers, you may remember that Black Panther was meant to be revealed much earlier, but was sidelined in favor of the back to back Hawkeye characters. Black Panther is finally on his way though. Just a couple of more months until players will be able to don the vibranium suit and claws. The 2018 Black Panther film is arguably one of the MCU’s most successful films and fans will definitely see similarities in the War For Wakanda Trailer Square Enix just released.
In this trailer, we see T’Challa as Black Panther, his genius sister Shuri, the Dora Milaje (and who we can assume is Okoye), and Black Panther’s nemesis Ulysses Klaw. Also like the movie, Klaw is seeking to steal Wakanda’s most precious resource vibranium, though this time he has teamed up with AIM. Black Panther will team up with allies as well. This is where the Avengers come in. It appears that there will be a new outpost in Wakanda that players can visit, as well as a new biome to fight AIM in. Thus far, all the enemies have been variants of base game enemies, but in this trailer, we see some AIM spiderbots. Hopefully, different enemies will appear going forward.
The previous expansions of Marvel’s Avengers have built toward a larger narrative regarding a Kree invasion in the future. Though War For Wakanda does not necessarily have to move that story forward, it will be interesting to see where it leads. War For Wakanda will be out in August, at no cost to owners of the game.
