Nintendo Switch Software Sales Exceed Company Expectations

Mario Kart 8 Deluxe Still Best Selling Game on the Console

Nintendo has realized their financial report for Q3 of this fiscal year and along with all of the incredible sales statistics for the Nintendo Switch console itself, the software has also boasted some substantial numbers worth taking note of.

Animal Crossing New Horizons

Animal Crossing: New Horizons is the best selling game of the fiscal year so far having sold 16.20 million units this year, for a total of 31.18 million units lifetime. Considering the fact that the game released last March –a month before the current fiscal year began– the game just barely sold more units in the past 9 months than it did in its initial launch month, normally that would be a pretty bad sign for a game but in this case, it is a testament to the game’s incredible launch month.

As successful as Animal Crossing: New Horizon has been, it still comes in as the console’s second best selling game behind Mario Kart 8 Deluxe. While New Horizons has sold almost double what Mario Kart 8 Deluxe has this year –with MK8D having only sold 8.64 million units– it is still unable to catch up to the Wii U port’s 33.4 million units in its life time. In all likelihood, Animal Crossing: New Horizons will surpass MK8D either by the end of this fiscal year, or in Q1 2022.

Nintendo games have been setting records as Mario Kart 8 becomes the best selling game in the series –when combining sales figures from both the Wii U and Switch version of the game.

Pokémon Sword and Shield are the best selling games in the series since the release of Gold and Silver on the Gameboy Color, with a total of 20.35 million units sold.

Meanwhile Pikmin 3 Deluxe is now the best selling game in the series with a total of 1.94 million units sold.

Super Mario 3D All-Stars sold 8.32 million units, coming in just behind Ring Fit Adventure with a total of 8.68 million units sold in lifetime sales.
