The Game Is Back Afloat
The last we heard of the Lovecraftian mystery The Sinking City, the game was neck-deep in legal trouble. After a dispute over who actually owned the rights to The Sinking City, the game was delisted from Steam, and online stores for Xbox and PlayStation, but remained on the Nintendo eShop, since developer Frogwares also published that version. Today, the game returns on PS5. That does not mean that all is well and good though. The delisted versions have returned, but issues of the first release still loom.
Many games from the past couple of years have been able to be upgraded from Xbox One to Xbox Series X and from PS4 to PS5 for free. However, because of the legal issues of The Sinking City on the last-gen consoles, that will not be the case this time. Yes, the game is out on PS5 today, but owners of the PS4 version will not be able to upgrade for free. Frogwares has released a statement explaining the situation.
Frogwares did release a trailer for The Sinking City to show off the upgrades though. It boasts load times that can be up to six times faster, 4K resolution, 60 frames per second, and improved lighting and textures. As much as the dark, grey colors of the original version suited the game, the new lighting makes the game a whole lot prettier, even if everything is intentionally ugly. The Sinking is available for PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Nintendo Switch.
