Pokémon Legends: Arceus, a New Open-world Pokémon Game Announced

Coming Early 2022

Along with the announcements of the generation 4 remakes, Pokémon Brilliant Diamond and Pokémon Shining Pearl, today’s Pokémon Presents announced a brand new title called Pokémon Legends: Arceus.

Like Pokémon Brilliant Diamond and Pokémon Shining Pearl, Pokémon Legends Arceus takes place in the Sinnoh region –a Sinnoh of the past. The game is a brand new open-world experience taking place in a feudal Sinnoh region long before the events of Pokémon BD and SP.

The trailer begins with a narrator telling a story set long ago when “the Sinnoh was still only a vast wilderness”. The trailer shows off one of the world’s villages, along with a variety of different landscapes scattered across this wilderness.

Gameplay includes footage of a player roaming around the world, sneaking up on wild Pokémon, catching Pokémon outside of battle, and some in-battle mechanics. It also appears as if the three starter Pokémon will be Cyndaquil from Pokémon Gold and Silver, Rowlet from Pokémon Sun and Moon, and Oshawott from Pokémon Black and White.

The trailer ends by revealing the legendary Pokémon, Arceus, raising the question of the Pokémon’s role in the story and its connection to the player.

The game is set to release for Nintendo Switch in early 2022, though no specific release date has been announced at this point. Pokémon Brilliant Diamond and Pokémon Shining Pearl will be releasing a few months earlier in late 2021.
