Final Fantasy XII Headlines Xbox Game Pass’s February Line-up

Even if Square Enix’s Future is With Sony, Their Past is a Different Story

Xbox Game Pass is just about the only Xbox feature even die-hard PlayStation lovers are jealous of. Sure, us Sony fanboys get the nifty Dualsense 5 controller and PlayStation Plus, but Xbox Game Pass gives players access to a wider variety of free games than even PlayStation Now, Sony’s rival offering.

We may have recently lost Final Fantasy XV on January 31st, but don’t worry, because we have a new Final Fantasy to look forward to on February 11th. Unfortunately, it happens to be one of the more divisive.

Final Fantasy XII: The Zodiac Age follows orphan Vaan as he becomes embroiled in the conflict between the Kingdom of Dalmasca and the Archadian Empire. In true Final Fantasy fashion there’s more to the conflict than meets the eye, with mysterious God-like beings pulling the strings behind the scenes.

Unfortunately, fans were put off by the MMO style gameplay (To this day I can’t figure out the gambit system) and complex, highly-political plot. Still, the game received critical acclaim, and it is critically adored, even if fan reaction was more divisive. Even better, The Zodiac Age is the updated rerelease of the game featuring new weapons and armor, updates to the license board system, and other features such as New Game+ and a trial mode.
