Crystal Dynamics Seeks to Unite Tomb Raider Reboot and Early Games

Tomb Raider: Legend of the Round Sunglasses

Tomb Raider turns 25 this year, which is fitting since Lara Croft looks like she’s 25 all the time. The current developer of the Tomb Raider series, Crystal Dynamics will be celebrating this milestone this year. Yesterday, they released a video setting up a whole year (probably not a WHOLE year) of Tomb Raider festivities starting in February. They will regularly be engaging with the community and recognizing cosplays, fan art, and other things. Though they are saving really big announcements for later in the year, Crystal Dynamics did say that they are working on projects to unite their Tomb Raider reboot games and the early games from the 1990s.

Tomb Raider Reboot

Unfortunately, Crystal Dynamics said they had no plans to announce another game this year, however if you are a fan of Tomb Raider in other mediums, there is still good news. Crystal Dynamics is working with Legendary Pictures and dj2 Entertainment to create an animated Netflix series. This show will take place after the events of Shadow of the Tomb Raider and precede the games made by Core Design. While the reboot trilogy focused on Lara’s story of learning to survive and fight for her life, we may see her becoming the confident adventurer we saw her debut as in the first Tomb Raider games.

25 years is an impressive milestone, so it would be really disappointing if Crystal Dynamics did not introduce or tease a new game in any fashion. There was that Tomb Raider: Ultimate Experience leak that never came to fruition last year, which would be a great way to bring all the games together. We will have to see how this year plays out. Crystal Dynamics is expected to officially start the anniversary celebrations for Tomb Raider in February.
