Well, Theyโre Giant Compared to Other Funko Pops!
Weโre just gonna go out there and say it: Funko Pops! are pretty awesome. Cute rounded shapes, (mostly) affordable prices, and a character catalog that Nendoroid can only watch in envy. The only downside of Funko Pops! is that generally speaking, they can have either a nose or a mouth. Defying all logic of the chibi form, itโs usually a nose for some reason. This is why we spent years assuming the standard little Funko nose was a weird triangular mouth. Fortunately, these toys donโt have that drawback. On the first episode of Funko FunTVโs Funko Fair, they revealed two adorably intimidating titans with incredibly detailed little faces: Godzilla and King Kong! The video also includes a bunch of other toy reveals, so skip straight to the 7:47 mark if youโre just here for the monsters.
Needless to say, we are loving everything about these toys. The battle-ready stances! The snarling expressions! The incredibly detailed scales and fur! Yeah, the dead black eyes are a little off-putting, but itโs no creepier than any other Funko creation. Besides, scary monsters are allowed to be a little creepy. Thatโs their gimmick. The video provided close-ups of each monsterโs lovingly molded face, which we really appreciate, though it didnโt provide full turnarounds of each figure. Weโll have to wait a little longer to see Godzillaโs spiny dorsal plates properly.
This is far from the first time either Kong or Godzilla has been captured in Funko Pop! form. Other figures include the Kong from Kong: Skull Island (which was a pretty great movie, by the way) clutching a military helicopter in one hand, a grey Godzilla with prominent claws, and an alternate color which gives Godzilla dark grey scales and brilliant glow in the dark accents. These new giants will be right at home.
