Witches, Werewolves, and Vampires, Oh My!
At this point, the cyberattack on Resident Evil developer capcom is old news. We have scant information about upcoming projects, but allegedly capcom’s recusal to cave to the hacker’s demands have resulted in the leak of the developer build of the much anticipated eight mainline entry in the series, Resident Evil: Village.
The leak has come with a couple of screenshots which I won’t post here – the source did provide this link if you’re curious, but the images don’t seem to lead – so look away now if you don’t want possible Spoilers based on the descriptions.
– There’s a bat-like creature with a human torso
– There’s a screenshot of a vampire-like lady
– There are a few images of an unknown lady
– There are a few images of a baby, and the trappings used to raise one.
The setting seems to borrow a lot from Resident Evil 4, one of the best-regarded in the series which is rumored to be the next to see a remake (Sorry, Code Veronica fans) but is looking to take a more supernatural – or supernaturally inspired – vibe. Resident Evil 4 was the first in the series to eschew viruses, instead focusing on the parasitic las plagas. Resident Evil 4 also revolved around a cult, which Village also seems to have, albeit with a focus on more traditional beasts like werewolves, witches, and vampires. It’s likely we’ll see an overt supernatural vent, but with keeping in mind that early versions of 4 was originally set to feature ghosts and extradimensional foes, and one of these was eventually changed to the original Devil May Cry game, so it’s not necessarily out of the question.
