PS5 Now Differentiates Between PS4 and PS5 Versions of Games

Gaming For Dummies

We live in a pretty cool age of tech. Our video games that have come out in the last year or two were optimized for Xbox One and PS4, but now that the Xbox Series X and PS5 are out, many of those games are being upgraded for free. Your ol’ pal Zane played Borderlands 3 a buttload on Xbox One and I can’t wait to get an Xbox Series X and play it on that. Having the two copies of a game on Xbox or PlayStation makes us feel game-rich, but herein lies a bit of an issue. How do you know exactly which one you’re playing?

PS5

Most of these upgraded versions have improved graphics, framerates, load times, and even additional features that help it stand apart from the previous version. However, people like yours truly who are pushing 28 and who does not really have an eye for 60fps might not be able to tell which version I’m playing just by looking at it. Thankfully, PS5 has warning message when launching a game that is not optimized to play on PS5. So, if you are loading up Call of Duty: Black Ops – Cold War for the first time on PS5, it will tell you if you are actually launching the PS4 version.

If you do load up a PS4 game on PS5 that has an upgraded version available, you will have the option to switch to the PS5 version or download it, if you haven’t already. Some games, like Call of Duty: Black Ops – Cold War have the PS4 and PS5 versions bundled together. If you are in a hurry to download it immediately after purchasing it, you can select “Download All” contents, but that means getting both the PS4 and PS5 versions of the same game, leaving you with the possibility of launching the PS4 version later, and no one wants that.

Have you accidentally launched the wrong version of your game on PS5 or Xbox Series X? Let us know in the comments below.
