The World Ends With You Sequel Officially Confirmed By Square Enix

The World Has Not Ended

Oh, happy day! After 13 years (this last one being particularly long), Square Enix has finally announced The World Ends With You sequel called NEO: The World Ends With You. The game was announced today with a sweet trailer, which introduces the brand new cast of characters and shows off some of the gameplay. The new protagonist’s name is Rindo. The rest of the characters are filled out by Fret, Nagi, and Minamimoto (who returns from the first game). Though the first game was made with 2D graphics as a style choice, NEO is savoring a cell-shaded, comicbook look while moving into a 3D world.

The World Ends With You Sequel

The gameplay in the first game saw two characters existing simultaneously in two different realms, which used the Nintendo DS’ two screens. In the new trailer, we see all four of the Players in one location, fighting together. This may be as a result of change in the Reapers’ Games, but we will have to get our hands on the game to see. As we are shown the business of what this game is going to offer, we are also exposed to a taste of the awesome soundtrack we will be getting.

The World Ends With You’s design was inspired by modern day youth culture of music, food, and fashion. It also does its best to accurately recreate the Shibuya shopping district. After 13 years of advances, we are eager to see how these things are improved upon in NEO: The World Ends With You, which will be coming out in Summer 2021 for PS4 and Nintendo Switch.
