Hitman Developer Working on James Bond Game

Who Was James Bond Before 007?

James Bond isn’t new to video games. In fact, the first James Bond video game was all the way back in 1983. We’ve seen a couple of Bond’s best known adventures on console, but apart from the legendary Goldeneye, none of the games have set the industry ablaze.

Hitman Developers IO Interactive are trying their luck though, as they’re officially working on a James Bond game which is described as an origin story, exploring how James Bond earned his 00 status. Given that fan theories have long claimed that James Bond is a codename, much like 007 (explaining why the various incarnations have vastly different personalities), it’ll be interesting to see how this plays out, and especially which version of Bond we’ll be portraying. Will the game’s version stick to Daniel Craig’s gritty, more realistic take, or take inspiration from one of the many actors to take the role, like Timothy Dalton or Pierce Brosnan?

We don’t know much about the new game from the short teaser – Project 007 isn’t even the final title – but given that IO Interactive’s Hitman franchise has become one of the world’s most recognizable stealth games, it’s a safe bet that they’ll incorporate aspects of Hitman into their upcoming game. After all, spycraft and assassination have a lot in common, with stealth, brutality, and a cool head under pressure being just a handful of the qualities 007 and Agent 47 share.

The game is still hiring staff to work on the game in Copenhagen, Denmark and Malmö, Sweden, so development is presumably still in the relatively early stages. Will we see Craig’s iteration make his swan song on console, the premiere of a new Bond, or even a new take on the character created specifically for console? Let us know what you think in the comments, on Twitter, or on Facebook.
