Call of Duty: Modern Warfare Is Too Big For 250GB SSD

This Drive Ain’t Big Enough for… Me

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare is one of the biggest games in the world. Both in the sense that it is popular and it takes up way too much space on your hard drive. Before it came out, the recommended specs were that PC players had 175GB of free space on their hard drive. That’s a lot for any game. Back in August, there was an update that pushed the size of the game past the threshold of 200GB. As it stands right now, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare can no longer fit on a 250GB SSD.

Modern Warfare Season 4 Wishlist

The Twitter account BattleNonSense pointed this out yesterday. Now a 250GB SSD is not exactly 250GB, so after all the extra data and rounding, it can hold about 232GB, but for one game? That is absolutely ridiculous. If a 250GB SSD is where you keep your copy of Modern Warfare, you will not be able to download its most recent update. Players on console generally do not have this issue. That is because they can pick and choose to uninstall certain maps, gamemodes, and other things. Players on Blizzard’s Battle.net have no such ability. Modern Warfare’s single player, Warzone, and multiplayer are all in one place and cannot be separated.

There is a (probably) simple fix though; just split up the different modes. Players don’t need access to Warzone to play the campaign, or need the campaign to play multiplayer. Unfortunately, that is not up to the player. That would have to be done on Activision’s end, but who knows if they will? Call of Duty: Modern Warfare is out on PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
