Bringing the Adventure to a New Console
It seems like every new generation of Nintendo console brings with it a couple of remasters of some of the classic Zelda games. The Wii U had The Wind Waker and Twilight Princess. the 3DS had ports of both Ocarina of Time and Majora’s Mask. While not necessarily a random choice, but it can be hard to discern which game is next in the series, or why one game will be ported to the Wii U but not the Switch.
After years of rumors, it looks like Skyward Sword is the next game to receive a port to a new console, making its first appearance outside of its home console, the Wii. A listing recently appeared on Amazon.co.uk for the remake, complete with a price (£69.99) and a Pre-order button.
Of course, this doesn’t mean that there is a Skyward Sword remake headed for the Switch. The listing could be a prank, and it’s worth being wary of preordering a game that hasn’t officially been announced as of yet.
When Skyward Sword first released it required a Wii MotionPlus to play- this add-on to the Wii remote allowed for more precise movements to be interpreted by the Wii sensors, allowing for the most complex sword-fighting mechanic in the series. It’d be interesting to see if and how this mechanic will be incorporated in a remake.
Skyward Sword is also one of the more mechanically unusually games in the series- the opposite of Breath of the Wild in a lot of ways, Skyward Sword takes place either in an open world area in the sky navigated by bird, or one of three smaller areas on the surface of Hyrule.
