Both Free and Fun!
Bloodborne is famous for being both dark and difficult. So naturally, someone has created a pixelated tribute game that’s cute and approachable. Yarntown is out right now on itch.io, courtesy of Max Mraz and the Solarus engine. Check it out for free! I sure did!
This tiny project encompasses Bloodborne’s starting area, featuring the first two bosses of the From Software classic. As this is a top-down version of the game, combat is a bit easier than you’re used to. You can still get rocked though, don’t worry. There’s even a rudimentary version of the leveling system included!
While we’re unlikely to see another entry in the Bloodborne franchise, this is an excellent homage to the game. Fans looking for a pixelated title that better captures that punishing combat could always try Hyper Light Drifter? After those rumors that a Bloodborne remaster was coming to the PS5, this little homage might be all we see of the franchise for some time. Thankfully, since this isn’t a Nintendo property, the project should stay on itch.io for a little while longer.
