Atelier Ryza 2: Lost Legends & The Secret Fairy Officially Announced

The Atelier Series’ Bestselling Game Is Getting a Sequel

Atelier Ryza 2: Lost Legends & the Secret Fairy was announced on July 20th, during the Nintendo Direct Mini showcase.

Atelier Ryza 2 Party

The Atelier series has released over 20 main series games, but the RPG series has never reached the popular heights of genre heavyweights like Final Fantasy or Persona.

Details on the new game are scarce, but we do know one key detail: Ryza is returning as the protagonist, making series history as the first character to take on the hero role in two successive games.

We don’t have any gameplay details yet, but we do know that the series staple, alchemy, is making a triumphant return. The Atelier series has always had a heavy focus on alchemy, but not in the way you’d expect: rather than purely turning metal into gold or searching for the elixir of life, Alchemy in the Atelier series has a lot of uses, whether it’s forging new weapons and armor or just forging new cooking ingredients. Alongside the announcement Nintendo dropped a short Japanese-language video during the showcase, showing off some gorgeous environments, as well as giving us a peek at the alchemy and battle systems in action.

Sadly, there’s no English-language information about what challenges Ryza will face in the new game, but Koei Tecmo America will officially launch the game’s website on July 29th, giving us more information on what we can expect from the upcoming game, and in the meantime, they’ve launched a teaser website which, sadly, doesn’t give us any new information. What we do know is that Ryza has a lot riding on her shoulders as the first hero in two consecutive Atelier games, but if the game can meet the level of quality as Ryza’s first outing, lightning just might strike twice.

Are you excited for Ryza’s new adventure? Let us know in the comments, or get in touch on Twitter or Facebook.
