The Blast of Us
There is a point where an upcoming game may reach a level of hype that it cannot live up to. No Man’s Sky, Kingdom Hearts 3, Halo 3, and The Last of Us Part 2 has reached that level. That’s not to say that they are not great games, but when you wait sometimes ten years for a game and think about it every day and get so excited by the idea of it, you will set yourself up for disappointment on some level. That is not necessarily true for everyone, but many “fans” of The Last of Us are review bombing the sequel for not being the game they wanted it be, and it is their own fault.
The Last of Us Part 2 comes out today, and people wasted no time in bombing the game with poor reviews. The user score on Metacritic currently stands at 3.4 out of 10, meanwhile the critic reviews culminate to 95 out of 100. If you look at the user reviews, you will want to wash your eyes out with acid, but more importantly you will see a common gripe with The Last of Us Part 2 being a “SJW game”. This probably refers to Ellie’s sexual orientation and her being the female protagonist of the game, which you could only have known about if you have eyes and saw anything related to the game prior to its release.
The saddest part of this is that these people consider themselves fans of the series. That’s not to say that fans should just accept new installments of their favourite franchises without critique, but when someone creates a game, or any piece of media for that matter, they ultimately decide what it is and what it is all about. I don’t get mad at Nintendo for making Mario in a way I don’t agree with. That’s a whole other can of worms though. The Last of Us Part 2 is out now exclusively on PS4.
