Last of Us Part 2 Will Be Compatible With the PS5

Everyone Can Now Breathe Easy

The Last of Us 2 is only a couple weeks away from lunch. Scheduled to release on June 19th fans will soon be able to get their hands on Sony’s next big blockbuster. While the hype is continuing to ramp up, three has been a burning question about the future of the franchise. Will the Last of Us Part 2 be available on the PS5? While many were expecting to see a separate release for the upcoming console, that is not the case. It has just been confirmed today that the PS4 version of The Last of Us Part 2 is going to be compatible with the PS5.

This is huge news for Sony fans. The original Last of Us launched on the PS3 but it took a significant amount of time to have a version that was ready to be played on the PS4. Thankfully the people at Sony and Naughty Dog were able to plan ahead far enough so that this will no longer be an issue.

The Last of Us Part 2 is going to be shoved into a category that Sony is now calling “forward compatible.” There is a good chance that Naughty Dog’s crown jewel could also be joined by some other big-name titles in the future. It will be interesting if games like Cyberpunk 2077 or Ghost of Tsushima follow suit.

It goes without saying that this is a very charitable gesture by Sony that will not go unnoticed by the community. Video games are expensive as it is. Especially new consoles. Not having to spend more money on a new version of a game you already bought is fantastic. While the lead up to The Last of Us 2 has been fairly bumpy and controversial, it looks like its future is going to be very bright.
