It’s Whiter Than We Expected, Honestly
After endless speculation and clumsy guesswork, we now know the face of Sony’s PS5 controller. Known as the DualSense, this bad boy actually represents a serious departure from PlayStation’s usual design sensibilities. There’s more than one color on display! The light bar bleeds into the front! It looks deeply uncomfortable! Truly, they’ve broken through to a new frontier this time.
The blog post in question lauds the DualSense for its inclusion of adaptive triggers and haptic feedback. This new model is all about touch, you see. This opens things up to new levels of immersion when driving through nasty terrain, or using a bow and arrow for some reason. But how will it feel in the hands? The heads of Sony are dead certain this thing is going to sit like silk and gold, in spite of my misgivings.
SIE CEO Jim Ryan states that “DualSense marks a radical departure from our previous controller offerings and captures just how strongly we feel about making a generational leap with PS5.” Sony wants you to know that things will be different this time. And they clearly will! It remains to be seen whether it’s a good different or not. The PS5 and the DualSense launch this holiday season. Maybe soon we’ll see the console as well?
