It Was Well Worth the Wait
Yesterday the long-awaited Medevial strategy game Mount and Blade 2: Bannerlord was released on Steam in early access. Needless to say, fans have been chomping at the bit to get their hands on a game that has eluded them for almost eight years. Regardless of the endless delays and setbacks that Bannerlord suffered in development the (somewhat) final product is here and the community is loving it. So far Mount and Balde 2: Bannerlord has been the biggest game on Steam this year.
So far there are almost 200,000 people playing the new title. While this does not hold up to huge blockbusters like Call of Duty or Dota 2, it still has amassed an impressive amount of players considering that it a niche game with a niche audience. Perhaps this could help the Mount and Blade series burst into the mainstream market.
Bannerlord plays very similar to Warband and that is not a bad thing at all. The old school flavor of the series is still present but all of the problems that faced Warband have been addressed and improved upon greatly. In many ways, Bannerlord is much more challenging than its predecessors. In Warband, you could assemble around 90 elite soldiers and you would be almost unstoppable. Particularly in sieges. But Bannerlord really makes you feel almost insignificant on the battlefield. It is hard not to feel small when there could be literally thousands of troops on your screen at once.
Bannerlord is not perfect and some players have reported a handful of technical issues, but it is in early access after all. You could wait until the game officially releases, however, you would be missing out on the fantastic sale that the developers are currently offering to players. If you buy the game within the next two weeks you will get the game for 10% off. In addition, if you own any previous titles in the Mount and Blade franchise you will get another 10% off. Not a bad deal for a brand new game.
