Bethesda Thought Fallout 76 PvP Was Going To Be More Popular Than It Is

Fallout 76’s PvP Content Hasn’t Been as Popular as Expected

Despite Fallout 76 being the first game in the series to have an official PvP mode, senior Bethesda executive Pete Hines said in a recent interview that the company was “a little surprised how few people wanted to take part in PvP” when compared to playing the game’s PvE content.

Hines spoke with USgamer at PAX East 2020 and mentioned how Bethesda was mistaken when it came to how much the Fallout 76 player base would like PvP.

“Well, I mean at the end of the day, our intention was always, we’re going to put this out there, see what folks think, and then cater the stuff that we do later to their reaction,” Hines explained. “So, for example, I think we were a little surprised how few people wanted to take part in PvP and how many more they were interested in PvE together. As opposed to, ‘I want to test my mettle against you and let’s get into a duel.’ There’s some folks who do, don’t get me wrong, but I think it’s a smaller percentage of our player base than we thought.”

Hines also said that the upcoming Wastelanders update that’s launching on April 7th was the just the beginning of Fallout 76’s 2020 content roadmap. “We have a plan. We have a roadmap that we’ll be sharing before too long, probably after Wastelanders,” he said.
