No Word on the PS5
Cyberpunk 2077 has been in the works for almost a decade. After an incredibly long wait, fans will finally be able to get their hands on the elusive game in the Fall of this year. This late 2020 release does put the game in a precarious spot as this is around the same time that the next generation of consoles is scheduled to drop. Both the Xbox Series X and PlayStation 5 are going to debut in November and December. This begged the question of whether or not Cyberpunk 2077 would be released for either console. Today CD Projekt Red announced that there will be Cyberpunk on the Xbox Series X.
The Polish development team has said that those who bought copies of their game for the Xbox One will be able to get ahold of a free upgrade when the time is right. It should be noted that they did not specify when the Xbox Series X version would release. It might not launch alongside the console. Knowing CD Projekt Red, chances are that those who buy Microsoft’s new console will have to wait a while.
There has been no announcement concerning the PlayStation 5. A PS5 port could be confirmed at a later date or never come to fruition. However, it is unlikely that Sony would not want to get their hands on such a sought after game. It would also be in the best interests of the developers as the PS5 is expected to outshine and outsell the Xbox Series X. There is currently more potential to make money with Sony.
Regardless of when the next-gen ports arrive, the official release date of Cyberpunk 2077 is going to be September 17, 2020, for the PS4, Xbox One, and PC.
