The Witcher Anime is Real

The Witcher Anime is Hot on the Heels of the Live-Action Series

Netflix has confirmed that The Witcher anime rumours are 100% legit!  The anime is a feature-length film, entitled “The Witcher: Nightmare of the Wolf.”

the witcherThe film will expand on the lore of the series by ““exploring a powerful new threat facing the Continent.” What this threat is and how it fits into the timeline of the live-action series is unknown.

Rumours of the anime movie were first seen on Redanian Intelligence, A Witcher fansite. The rumour was then corroborated by Gizmodo before being confirmed by the Netflix Twitter account.

Witcher show runner Lauren Schmitd Hissrich is developing the film alongside producer Beau DeMayo. Studio Mirr, a Korean animation studio, is responsible for the animation. You might recognize the studio’s handiwork from The Legend of Korra and Netflix’s Voltron: Legendary Defenders.

The Witcher Netflix series has had one of the most successful debuts ever on Netflix, thanks in part to a change in Netflix’s metrics. The series debut on Dec. 20 of last year. The series was initially set to be a movie but, according to Publishers Weekly, creative executive Kelly Luegenbiehl thought it wouldn’t be enough.

“How can you take eight novels and just turn it into a film?”

Season 2 is set to premier in 2021. The anime movie is expected to drop this year, but there is no official date.
