So Many Ocean Bases Built
Did you play a whole bunch of Subnautica when it came out? Did you at least buy the game? If so, you’ve got several million co-conspirators out there. Charlie Cleveland, the Subnautica dev and studio head, recently spoke about the game’s lifetime sales. Over 5 million people have bought this game since its proper launch!
Now, Subnautica has existed in one form or another since 2014. It wasn’t until 2018 that it entered the market as a full release. That means those 5.23 million sales were accumulated in just under two years. Which isn’t even counting the 4.5 million people who scooped up a free copy of the game during one of its brief giveaway periods.
What I’m saying is that tons of people got totally sucked into Subnautica. Building massive bases, exploratory vessels, and complex equipment is just too cool to resist, apparently. It seems that part of this success is due to a varied publishing environment. The game is available for Steam, EGS, PS4, and the Xbox One, in markets all over the world. You can read more about that publishing success here. Subnautica is currently available on the platforms noted, plus Charlie Cleveland and Unknown Worlds have produced a sequel, Subnautica: Below Zero.
