Sony AI Is Headed by Hiroaki Kitano
According to a recent Sony blog post, President and CEO of Sony Computer Science Laboratories, Hiroaki Kitano will be in charge of a new division of Sony known as Sony AI. Peter Stone will be heading the American office of Sony AI as well. The new Artificial Intelligence division has three flagship projects on top of gaming which are imaging, sensing and gastronomy. Sony believes imagining and will benefit the PlayStation 5 for years to come. Sony AI has been established with the mission to “unleash human imagination and creativity with Artificial Intelligence.”
Sony Artificial Intelligence combines fundamental research and development with Sony’s technical assets, especially with Imaging and Sensing. Their robotics and entertainment will add to this, driving transformation across all aspects of Sony as well as creating new business domains. One of the key long-term goals of Sony AI is to contribute to the resolution of shared global issues beyond Sony’s business domain. Sony will drive the research and development of Artificial Intelligence in both the virtual space as well as the physical space through multiple research projects such as exploring Artificial Intelligence ethics.
The projects Sony AI tackles will be critical to enhancing the value of Sony’s gaming and sensor businesses moving forward. Sony is looking to hire top global Artificial Intelligence talent with an interest in attracting the best Artificial Intelligence researchers and engineers. Apparently, this innovation requires diverse talent and unique approaches which will be reflected in the composition and operation. Sony AI will contribute to society through the development of Artificial Intelligence that is fair, transparent and accountable as the company recognizes the power and influence of the technology.
