We May See a Familiar Modern Warfare Map From MW2

Don’t Get Rusty

Fans learned quite a bit from the Call of Duty: Modern Warfare beta recently. In addition to the different modes across the two different beta weeks, dataminers took this time to poke around a bit in the game’s code. It’s like window-shopping for game features and assets. It turns out that there are assets from a past Call of Duty map that may end up as a Modern Warfare map. From Modern Warfare 2, there is evidence that Rust has been or will be used. While reusing past maps is not new, nostalgia is exciting.

Modern Warfare Map

For new fans to the CoD series, Rust was a map from 2009’s Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2. It was a relatively small map in a box-shaped fenced area. The play space is an oil yard in an Afghanistan desert. It is the smallest map in Modern Warfare 2 and a personal least-favourite of your ol’ pal Zane. I liked the wide-open maps where I could camp. It’s a legitimate strategy! But Rust was generally favoured by most Modern Warfare 2 players. It’s no wonder Infinity Ward would want to bring it back.

With the debut of Modern Warfare’s 2v2 mode Gunfight, Rust would be a perfect map to play in. The tight corners and small area made Team Deathmatch a little crowded. The question is when, if at all, will Rust be included? Will it be available at launch or will Infinity Ward put out a DLC pack for reused maps? Call of Duty: Modern Warfare will be out on October 25th on PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
